TZM Alloy and Pure Molybdenum Comparison
Pure molybdenum has good characteristics such as high melting point, low thermal expansion coefficient, good electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, excellent thermal shock resistance and thermal fatigue properties and so on. However, molybdenum recrystallization temperature is low, high brittleness and low strength and other shortcomings, so its application is very limited. Titanium zirconium molybdenum alloy （TZM alloy）is the most widely used molybdenum alloy on the basis of molybdenum doped with a small amount of titanium and zirconium element, so that the mechanical properties and recrystallization temperature of molybdenum has been corresponding improvement.
Metallographic structure: compared the metallographic structure of TZM and molybdenum found TZM sintered blank has smaller grains, about 30um, while molybdenum sintered blank grain size is about 40um.
Mechanical properties: TZM molybdenum alloy room temperature tensile strength is significantly higher than pure molybdenum, but the elongation is less than molybdenum. At 1200 ℃ high temperature, the tensile strength of molybdenum dropped significantly, but TZM also maintained at a high level.
Recrystallization temperature: starting recrystallization temperature of titanium zirconium molybdenum alloy is about 1350 ℃ and recrystallization temperature is 1700 ℃. molybdenum starting recrystallization temperature is about 850 ℃ and the end of recrystallization temperature is about 1250 ℃.
Tensile fracture morphology: TZM room temperature tensile fracture surface is composed of a series of small fracture surface, basically cleavage fracture, having low elongation. Mo room temperature tensile fracture surface is composed of a series of interconnected small dimple, having high elongation. At 1200 ℃, TZM fracture morphology has changed, there have been many dimples, showing cleavage fracture and has good plastic deformation. High-temperature fracture morphology of Mo exhibits herringbone ridge-like pattern, with a clear presence of dimples, the performance of ductile deformation has high elongation.
