Molybdenum disilicide coating is usually used for metals protection and it is one of molybdenum disilicide products. Molybdenum disilicide is high melting point metal compound, which has many excellent properties, such as medium-density, high melting point, low thermal expansion coefficient, good oxidation resistance and chemical inertness, so it has widely applications and usually as high temperature structural parts used in aerospace and automotive fields, also was made of heating element used in a variety of resistance furnace.

Molybdenum disilicide has best high temperature oxidation resistance among other silicides. It can generate SiO2 protective film at high temperature oxidizing atmosphere to protect high temperature oxidation and decomposition, so often as coating material used in various fields. MoSi2 coating is a good high-temperature coating system, commonly used in high temperature refractory metals and its alloys and C/C composites. In addition, MoSi2 film can also serve as gate contact of silicon integrated circuits and thick film can be used in high temperature anti-oxidation protective materials. With the development of science and technology, MoSi2 coating has been continuously improved. Doped with boron, chromium and tungsten and other additives can effective to improve the coating performance and doped with 4% boron the MoSi2 coating has best performance.

There are many methods for MoSi2 coating production, including plasma spraying method, thermal spray technology and HVOF method and so on. The plasma spraying technique is a common method for coating manufacturing.
